Mrs. Kia Douglass-Felton, an owner of Acclaim, serves as our center's Director. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Livingstone College and has over sixteen years of experience in early childhood education and management. Prior to her work with Acclaim Academy, she was a director of a child care center in the Germantown area for four years where she was responsible for maintaining requirements for licensure. She then worked for a national child care franchise where she succeeded in meeting licensing requirements and obtaining state licensing for new centers in 17 states for three years.
Mrs. Douglass-Felton enjoys using her skills and experience to create the finest and most innovative early education learning center in Philadelphia. She has worked with many centers, and now she is able to combine the best practices into one place.
Mrs. Douglass-Felton is responsible for the daily management of Acclaim Academy, the care and education of the students, and the supervision of the staff. She oversees the daily curriculum implementation and develops enrichment activities with the team.
Mrs. Douglass-Felton believes that the most important mission of Acclaim Academy is to enhance the learning ability of all children while providing loving care and nurturance.
Joseph R. Martin is AcclaimAcademy's founder.He was born and raised in Philadelphia and is an active member of the community. He is a graduate of HamptonUniversity and obtained his master’s of business administration (MBA) degree from the PennsylvaniaStateUniversity. He has worked in the field of marketing for corporations while developing the concept of a high-quality early learning center for his hometown.
Mr. Martin places a premium on education, believing that children benefit from being in a mentally stimulating and nurturing environment. He believes that infants, toddlers and children have an optimal chance for academic success when exposed to learning settings early. Additionally, he believes that the successful development of children at the center requires an ongoing partnership between families and the center's educational providers.
Mr. Martin observed that suburban, affluent communities often have the type of progressive, early childhood learning centers that were missing in the city.He is now pleased to provide the most creative and enlightened early education practices to the city he loves.
Dr. Lisa Slade Martin is Acclaim Academy’s consulting psychologist. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and received her Ph.D. in psychology from Emory University. She has performed psychological services for families in Washington, DC, Virginia and Delaware.
Dr. Martin provides supervision of psychology interns, and consults with Mrs. Douglass-Felton and Mr. Martin to help provide the best environment for enhancing the emotional, behavioral and social development of our children.
